CEDAR HILL, Texas – (March 2, 2016) – Hillside Village has been named local Green Business of the Year by Waste Management. The award is presented annually to a Cedar Hill Chamber member that promotes green initiatives through creating and fostering partnerships within the community, has a successful recycling program, and incorporates environmentally conscious practices that maintain the character of Cedar Hill.

“Environmental responsibility is an important part of our Conscious Place efforts, and we are honored to be recognized for the recycling and waste reduction programs we’ve put in place this past year,” said Maranda Auzenne, general manager, Hillside Village. “We hope to expand these programs in 2016 and set an example for other local businesses.”

Thanks to its recycling and waste reduction initiatives, the shopping center was able to save $262,000 worth of resources, which is equivalent to more than one million gallons of water, 71,000 gallons of oil, 622 yards of landfill space and 3,200 trees. Other initiatives include smart meters on irrigation systems to decrease water usage and converting parking lot lighting to fluorescents to reduce electrical consumption. Hillside Village was selected from five other nominees in Cedar Hill.

These environmental programs are part of the Conscious Place initiative being implemented at Hillside Village by operating partner, Trademark Property Co. Conscious Place is Trademark’s stakeholder-driven development model that aims to ensure that its properties are more than just places of commerce, but also places of community and meaning. This includes a commitment to sustainability through recycling and waste reduction programs, like those at Hillside Village.
