Corpus Christi, Texas (October 19, 2011) – Drivers of electric vehicles will soon be able to fill’er up at La Palmera. Or perhaps, plug it in, to be more exact, as the mall unveils its new Electric Vehicle Charging Stations in a ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday, Oct. 27 at 8:30 a.m.

La Palmera has partnered with the Eaton Corporation’s sales and service organization in Corpus Christi to provide the two new charging stations, which are free of charge and available during mall hours to anyone with an electric vehicle. The Pow-R-Stations are located adjacent to mall’s exterior wall in the parking area between JCPenney and Macy’s off McArdle Road, and easily found as a result of the new bright green signage and wall graphics.

Drivers will pull into one of the two designated parking spaces for charging and simply plug in one of the connectors. Each charger, which will be partially powered by solar panels, will easily fill a depleted all-electric vehicle battery in three to four hours while the owner shops.

“We are pleased to be working with the Eaton Corporation on this project and are excited about providing the free charging stations, the first and only in Corpus Christi,” said La Palmera General Manager Fred Walters. “This is exactly the kind of innovation and forward thinking that we are trying to implement here at La Palmera. It fits in perfectly with our LEED status and the green elements we have already put into place.”

The Cleveland, Ohio-based Eaton’s global operations serve diverse markets and customers in more than 150 countries helping customers to use energy more reliably, efficiently and safely.

La Palmera was recently awarded LEED® Silver certification for Core and Shell 2.0 established by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and verified by the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI), the first in the U.S. to receive the prestigious designation. LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is the nation’s preeminent program for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings.

La Palmera is saving water, energy and more through many of its green initiatives, including the recycling of plastic, aluminum and paper products from shoppers and tenants alike. To date, the recycling efforts have saved an estimated 910 cubic yards in the landfill, the equivalent of nearly 134 football fields, and approximately 4,500 trees.
